Altered Beginnings

I sincerely hope that all is well with you and your lovely families and I wish you all a Happy New Year…yes, a HAPPY one! This is not your typical new years post or the new years resolution post people become accustomed to seeing at this time of year, instead it is just a little something to provide encouragement in dark times(or what seems to be dark times,) be it the weather at this time of year or the mood of the country as we find ourselves in lockdown 3.

Even if I wanted to, I could not start with the typical New Year post as nothing in today’s world is typical so all I am going to do is offer a little bit of encouragement for you all. I titled my piece altered beginnings and I bet you ask, WHY?

If we must be honest, itis not really a beginning at all, instead we find ourselves in the ‘in-between stage’ somewhere between where this all started and when it will all come to an end. A little bit like the dog in the picture, a rather precarious position and one that will not let up easily or without a little struggle, effort and endurance. In saying this, I have to quote a line from one of my favourite poems.

I do believe for me this is a solid statement and one I often live by and use to encourage my children too, for so often the struggle becomes arduous and overwhelming to say the least and it seems and feels like the world is coming down on you on, truth is you may be so close to the end goal and unless you press on, you will never know how close you are.

As you embark on the journey that is 2021 – keep at it, keep your eye on the end goal, and press on, do not lose heart, for beside you there are 7.8 billion participants in the same race – some who currently find themselves on the uphill struggle and others may be enjoying a little reprieve of a downhill stint. The fundamental truth is we are all in this together and the only way through it, is TOGETHER.

My three pieces of advise are:

• Concentrate on the positives

• Focus on the things you can control

• Be flexible

I leave you with this final thought:
